GLIMPSES OF AN ARMY PERSONNEL'S LIFE AFTER RETIREMENT

In 2012, our father retired from the Army while holding the rank of Subedar Major, the senior most JCO rank in the Indian Army, at the age of 45 years.

Most people are quite curious about a retired Army Personnel's daily life. In our today's post I would be giving you a glimpse of my father's life after retirement.

At the time of enlistment in The Army

He was a Diploma Holder in Civil Engineering. He wanted to study more while he was in college but couldn't due to responsibilities of the household and the family. The need of the hour at that time was securing a stable job. Many of the people who had passed out with our father in those times probably still remember the policy of zero budget in Maharashtra. There were no government jobs for five years, as a result securing a job became top priority since it was uncertain when the government would scrap the zero-budget policy. Due to the situation above, he was unable to complete his graduation.

After retirement one of his colleagues suggested him to study law since my father was proficient in the field of Civil Engineering and in the legal sector there is still a relative shortage of Techno-legal professionals. And soon he enrolled himself for a Bachelor of Law program of three years.

I myself had just passed out from 12th standard and had enrolled for Bachelor of Commerce program. Basically, we both enrolled at different colleges at the same time and our college life ran concurrently for the next three years.

He was a regular student studying with other students of my age. He was always a ranker in the top 3 students at the end of every semester. Thus, he completed his graduation at the top of his class with flying colours.

In 2017, recruitment for Junior Engineers at the Pune Municipal Corporation came up and he applied for the same. Of course, an examination paper was no match for 26 years of practical experience. He practically cleared the exam without breaking a sweat.

That was all concerned with his professional life let us have a look at his personnel life as well. His favourite hobby has always being setting up a garden. During Saturdays and Sundays, he spends all his day in the terrace garden, that he setup himself, taking care of the plants.

Some of you may know this and others might not, the Army makes all its personnel kind of workaholic. They just can't sit still, always ready to finish off some work or the other. My father for example, takes care of the garden all by himself and also handles all repair work in our home ranging from plumbing, electrical work to repairing furniture and electrical machines and devices as well.

Moral of the story is YOU MAY RETIRE AN ARMY PERSONNEL FROM THE ARMY BUT YOU CAN NEVER RETIRE ARMY FROM AN ARMY PERSONNEL
